BattleTech 3000

Household Creation

Your character starts at age 21. Your character has 2 younger siblings, your choice of age from 15 to 20 (19 and 17 unless you let me know otherwise). They may be male or female.

If your primary character dies, his/her heir inherits the estate and takes over the duties of piloting the Mech. The line of inheritance is as follows:

  1. The character’s firstborn child (male or female), if they are 21 or over. They may inherit as young as 15 with the permission of the Count. If they are younger than 15, inheritance passes back to them when they come of age.
  2. The character’s next oldest child and so on.
  3. The character’s next oldest sibling (male or female). This is who will inherit for starting characters.
  4. The firstborn of the next oldest sibling, then the next oldest and so on.

Children

All characters start out unmarried and must find a mate to have children. If they do get married, you may roll for a child each year the wife is from 15 to 40 years old. If the wife makes a BLD save at -3, a child is born that year. The wife must make a BLD save at -6 to survive childbirth and the child survives 2D6-2 years, surviving to 15 on a 7 or higher.

Family Honor

Adventure Points are carried over to the next character when your character dies, as Family Honor Points. Honor points increase 1-for-1 with AP, and decrease as follows:

  • Per year of campaign time: -1. Normally, one year passes with each session.
  • Attacking a MechWarrior outside his Mech: -1.
  • Cowardice in battle: -1.
  • Attacking/looting holy places or ComStar relay stations: -2.
  • Killing, kidnapping or raping a non-combatant Noble: -2.
  • Breaking an oath: -3.
  • Attacking a JumpShip: -5.
  • Treachery against your Leige Lord: -1/2 total Honor.
  • Treachery against a family member: -1/2 total Honor.
  • Recognizing a child born out of wedlock, for the purposes of inheritance: -1/2 total Honor.

Note that these penalties do not apply to AP of the current character, only the next one, although a family with 0 honor is at risk of losing their title and lands.

Sibling Advancement

Your character's siblings can gain Skill Points while your primary character is still in play. Rather than having to track everyone’s SPs, use the following rules:

  • If the character is over 21 when they become the primary, LRN Family Honor per year over 21 may be added straight to Skill Points at character creation (note that these points are different from the SPs after creation).
  • Or, characters over 21 may take a free skill at Level 2 and add 1 skill level per year up to their LRN attribute.

You may declare a sibling’s skill in something in order to put them in charge of Land Management, Ground Forces, etc. as long as you buy them to that level (before bonuses) at character creation.
