BattleTech 3000

BattleMech and other Maintenance

All costs are in H-bills (the Marik 'Eagle') unless noted otherwise.

Each month, you have to pay for:

  1. Patrolling Mechs. Each Mech consumes .5 tons (500 liters) of water per Heat Point generated by all its weapons.
  2. Target Practice. Each Mech expends 1 ton of ammo per type of weapon per month as target practice.
  3. Generic ‘Mech spare parts: 10 H-bills per ton (of Mech) per month.
  4. If you make a deal with the player or NPC who provides a particular good (water, ammo or spare parts), you can avoid that payment.
  5. Maintenance. The rules for this are in Combat Operations, so I can't repeat all of them here.
Maintenance Points are used to keep up Mechs, Tanks, Infantry and all other military units, based on their Battle Values. The Battle Values for buildings are as follows:
  6. The Defensive Battle Value is the building's Construction Factor times 2.
  7. The Offensive Battle Value is the total BV for its weapons times .44 for turreted buildings (the usual "Speed 0" modifier) or times .2 for non-turreted.
  8. The Maintenance multiplier is 35%.
  9. Infantry salaries: See Player information.
  10. Noble Lifestyle: Each Noble Consumes at least a year's (400 days) worth of food and water, more if they are living well. They have a vehicle allowance; the default is 10%, with 100% representing a new vehicle every year. They also have a 'Lifestyle' allowance which covers all other expenses, defaulting to 700 H-bills per year. All the defaults would be considered a rather poor lifestyle, though still better than the average peasant.

Penalties

  • Patrol: If you do not patrol and you are attacked or scouted in the month, you can't react as quickly and supply convoys can be captured or destroyed.
  • Spare Parts: If a crisis breaks out, make a Technician roll to get the Mech up and running (+2 if spare parts were not purchased for the month). If the roll fails, a critical part is missing and someone will have to go to Ebble to get it (though you might be able to Scrounge from a non-functioning Mech). At 2.5 times normal cost, a Mech can be at 100% readiness with no roll required.
  • Skills:
    • If a MechWarrior doesn’t patrol during the month, they lose 1 Piloting skill level per month down to Level 1. Also, they cannot allocate Training Skill Points to Piloting.
    • If a MechWarrior, Gun Emplacement or Vehicle Gunner doesn’t practice with a weapon during the month, they lose 1 Gunnery skill level per month, down to Level 1, for that weapon only. They cannot allocate Training Skill Points to Gunnery unless they practice with at least one Mech weapon.
    • Skill penalties are removed when the first Skill point is gained. In combat, this is on a roll of 2 or 12. Out of combat, it takes a month of practice.
  • Maintenance: Combat Operations has rules for lack of Maintenance Points.
  • Lifestyle: it is possible to live without spending for purified water, vehicles and general lifestyle expenses, though one's life becomes like that of a peasant. If a noble is not fed, however, then they are not available for actions; they must literally go out and grow their own food. Living at the default level may also give a penalty to Protocol rolls.
